Hello!
I've just moved to Keikyu Tomioka and am having a hard time find a gym, and any whole wheat/whole grain bread, pasta, etc. I'm looking for a city gym-many people told me they exist but I can't seem to find one around where I live. These are the gyms where you pay about 300-500 yen per visit-no membership required. Anyone living around her have any idea where I can work-out/grocery shop?
Thanks!

hi
I live one stop away from you in Nokendai. I joined the Central sports gym there, as there isn't a city gym in the area. There's a website in English ran by Yokohama city which lists all of the city gyms, sorry I can't remember what it is, but if you do a search I'm sure you'll find it. The nearest city gym is possibliy in Kanazawa Bunko, but I can't remember.

As for supermarkets, there is a huge supermarket in Nokendai, which I am sure would have some of the stuff you're looking for. Actually all along the trainline you can see branches of Ito Yukado, perhaps one of them is somewhat convenient for you.

Whole grain pasta is available in some larger supermarkets. If you're thinking of the chewy, grain-filled bread you get at home, I'm afraid that in 8 years in Tokyo I've not found anything like it. Most supermarkets have rye bread and bran bread, which is basically white bread with the grains added, but healthier than the completely white bread.

You might find you have to make occasional trips to Yokohama or even Tokyo to the international supermarkets for things like whole grain pasta- or start eating lots of brown rice instead as that is more readily available!
