|
|
My background: British Muslim female, native English speaker, I have a BSc in Maths & Management (First class), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (in Secondary Mathematics), Certificate in Arabic and an MA in Islamic Studies, all from University of London. I also have 2 yrs experience as a part-time teacher of Maths in a high School in London.
I came to Jeddah two weeks ago with my husband (who has an iqama) because I was meant to be starting a job at Manarat, teaching Maths. But when I got here I was told there were problems with the school admin in Riyadh and they could no longer employ me.
So basically I now need to find another job asap. I've tried other schools but the ones who replied are all very low-paying (around 4000 SAR) and include no benefits (i.e. no accomodation, transportation or even many hols). The only other thing I can think of is to teach English, but even though I've emailed my CV to all the local language centres (Berlitz, EF etc), I have not heard from any of them. Perhaps this is because I dont have a Celta/Tefl...
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on what else i could do? I have to point out that i can only work mornings (7am - 2pm, say) because I have a 2yr old daughter who I dont wish to neglect, and also that private tuitioning isnt really an option for me.
Also does anyone know about how i can do a distance learning Celta from here?
Thankyou for all your help!
Hope to hear from lots of you soon |

| Yes, I emailed Jeddah Prep the last time i was here in March 2006, and now recently again, but have never received a reply. I'm not sure though if the email stated on their website is actually working. |

I wouldgo and see them at both Jeddah prep and Continental. These schools used to be lilywhite but are now more ethnically diverse.
There are lots of other places - but they will be paying in the range of US$1,000 a month (ie 4,000 SR).
Or do EFL. |

I would suggest you apply to Prince Sultan University in Riyadh. I've heard that half their English department left last semester and they are now desperate for staff.
Even without a degree in English, they will most probably take you on - in fact, this year, they have hired teachers who have no degrees and no qualifications to teach English. They've also hired teachers with fake degrees/MAs. Despite knowing about the fake qualifications, the university has offered them a good package - better than the package MA holders receive!! (the new recruits with no degrees get almost 9000SAR; those with the fake MAs get almost 10,000SAR - plus benefits).
If you don't want to teach English, I think they also have a Math department (not sure, though).
Try your luck and see what happens! |

She could get a job in Hail too but she is in Jeddah with a husband working there and a two-year-old child.

I simply 'misread' the post - surely that's not a crime, is it??!!
You seem to be intolerant of misunderstandings - don't worry, I understand - I have heard about the male menopouse...poor you. |

| Oops! I meant 'menopause' not 'menopouse' - just a typing error, so don't get your knickers in a twist about that, too! |
