Hello,
I had a question regarding the CAV. Does anyone know if it is possible to change a tourist visa to a CAV within Japan? Also, if anyone one could shed more light into what type of activities would be required to obtain the CAV? Any info much appreciated!

Thanks,

Read the MOFA web page on visas. This is what it says about the CAV activities authorized to engage in. Academic or artistic activities that provide no income, activities for the purpose of pursuing specific studies on Japanese culture or arts, or activities for the purpose of learning and acquiring skills in Japanese culture or arts under the guidance of experts (for example, ikebana, tea ceremony, judo, etc.).
It's good for 6 months or a year. The CAV itself does not permit outside work, so you will have to request permission to do so, and it will probably be only for PT work.

As for changing it within Japan, I'm not sure, but I would think so. Ask immigration, but be prepared for them to tell you that you cannot job hunt while on a tourist status. (That's normal, so just tell them you would contact a sponsor from outside Japan, not while you are a tourist here.)

In principle, yes. But in practice it can often take a very long time to get processed by which time your tourist visa will have expired.
