Or in plain Ingrisu - can I hold a 'instructors' visa and apply for and get another visa catergory, say 'entertainment'. |

Sure, you can apply for it. You can apply for any visa. If you are qualified, you will get it. Of course, the other visa you hold will be canceled, though. |

So you can't hold two different catergories at the same time. Right? |

The following visa types permit almost any type of job.
Spouse visa
Dependent visa
Student visa
Working holiday visa
Or you could become a Japanese citizen. (jk) |

Spouse visa - the wife won't be to happy about this
Dependent visa - nor this
Student visa - maybe if I win the lottery
Working holiday visa - too old
Thanks 'ski I'll just have to look into subversive methods. |

Why do you want two different visas? It doesn't make sense. If you want to do something outside of your visa category you can ask for permission, it is not so rare. |

Now we are getting somewhere.
So If I wanted to something on the side that requires a entertainment , business or whatever visa I can simply ask for permission to do it right?
Can I do it in anticipation of getting work or do I need to have it first? |

There is a special form I can't remember the Japanese but it translates to basically 'permission to do work outside one's permitted work' or something like that. It is really common but of course no guarantees at all it depends on what you want to do. You are suppose to get a work offer/contract and then go ask for permission to do it before you start work, which of course is not always as easy as it sounds especially as many employers don't know anything about immigration procedures. Just go in to the office and explain and they will give you the form but that is no guarantee the answer will be yes. |
