Hi everyone,
I am a Canadian looking into teaching English or another subject in Nowy Sacz. By next year I will have the following:
a. BA in History (HONS) from a top public university
b. Awarded Highest Distinction upon graduating 3.7+ GPA plus a course in English Grammar.
c. MA in History from good university
d. 150 hours experience as a TA in second year history classes.
e. I also have Polish parents meaning that I can speak Polish almost fluently.
Now, I only want to work in Poland for a year and then continue on to law school so I don't want to (nor do I really have the time or money) for a certificate. Is it still possible to get a good job without this in Nowy Sacz? I am interested in the WSB NLU or some work as a high school teacher. I also know that there is a college in Nowy Sacz that awards BAs and has History courses in English (the name escapes me). |

i know wsb and nowy sacz quite well.
i doubt whether wsb will employ you without a basic teaching certificate but you can try.
there are other schools here one using the callan method, i know nothing about them, but as it's callan my guess is anyone could work there.
also perfect english is a school operating in the area, hq in nowy sacz, they have employed me as a conversation teacher in the past, but the hours are few.
my advice is to find the time and money to take the tesol, part time in the evenings, from what i've heard it's pretty easy it will pay off as you are then almost guaranteed a place in sacz next year at wsb, which is, according to school leagues over here is one of the best private universities in the country.
good luck. |

Sounds like you want to teach English just to support yourself and kill time, in which case Callan would be good for you. There are a couple schools in nowy sacz... check out the Polish yellow pages www.pkt.pl for the listings and just hit them one by one.
I know a guy who runs a recruitment service and I know he's gotten people jobs in that area as native speakers of English. If you need some points, I can get you in touch with him. |
