hi. does anyone know if there is a time restriction on coming back into japan after your visa expires and you leave? the reason i ask this is because my working visa expires next month and if i havent gotten all my things in order before that time, i will have to go and come back again. im hoping that wont happen, but if it does, i will have to come back as a tourist and stay for the 3 months to clear up some things.

im just worried that after i leave, i will need to stay out for a period of time before they let me back in. i was thinking of just going to taiwan or a close place like that for a few days and then come back. has anyone had to do this? or had to experience this before??

You can come back on a tourist visa!!! No problemo!

Oh but maybe you have to go through tthe visitiing line at immigaration, not the Japanese passsport holders/resdients line. I think....Also, you won't use your re-entry permit. When you leave Japan make sure you do it before the working visa expires or you will have mega-huge problems Then maybe the visa people will stamp it "expired" or sometthing. Then you just have ordinary passport status.

Usually if you have reapplied for another work visa (or extension) immigration will issue a temporary visa so that you can continue towork while you are in processing (also of course allows you back in while avoiding a tourist visa). But ask immigration to make sure when you reapply (plenty of time, it's only the 8th).
