Hi,
I was wondeing if anyone has taught in Torino. If so, any advice, tips on things I should be aware of once teaching, would be greatly appreciated. I have been to the city before but I am interested in knowing more about the schools. Thanks!!

I did a 6 month stint there about 12 years ago! It was alright, but I've found much greener pastures since. I was working for a business language school, teaching early morning classes and late evening classes with not much in between, except jumping on trams around the city to get from class to class. It was hard work and didn't leave much time for getting to know Torino. That said, I got to see a good few Juve games and unearthed a gem of a bar down near the river....
You could check out linguarama, see if they are still there. They are a Europe wide company, operating out of Britain but with schools all over the place. My problems with them centred round one particular person who no longer works there. |

It was Linguarama. It was fairly centrally located and had a good coffee shop nearby where students insisted on taking breaks. Who was I to disagree...
Check out the linguarama website. They are a British company and have schools all over Europe. |

I'm far more interested in the decent bar for when I visit from the mountains - where is it and what's its name?!
Actually, I must get to a footie game down there, seeing as my English team is just inducing depression at the moment. A poster in the local town advertised a trip to see Juve-Frosinone!!! - how are the mighty fallen.. |

I can't remember the name of the bar - it was 8 years ago and I could barely remember the name of it the next morning, never mind years later! All I remember was it was run by a couple who only spoke Piedmontese, the local dialect, and they had regulars sign the wall. There were words of wisdom dating back decades, usually banter at the expense of whichever of the two footie teams were suffering the most at the time - guess Juve are taking up a lot of space right now. As would my English team if they ever did anything noteworthy (asides from biting the opposition, little clue there!)
It was near to the river cos we used to head down to the clubs under the arches later in the night. But aside from that, I can't help I am afraid. If you know any locals there, ask them about the Piedmontese bar with writing in the wall - it was allegedly well-known amongst locals. |
