|
|
Hello all, I would like to teach in Mexico within the next year or so, say anytime after June 2007; at the moment I'm in Korea.
Quick profile: Canadian male, 45, Bachelor's of Education degree (Secondary, English Major - French Minor); Permanent teacher's certification from my home province (Alberta) acquired with sufficient years of teaching experience; I have also taught a fair bit of ESL, including a full contract year in Korea a couple years back.
I speak and read beginner Spanish, which I learned extremely quickly thanks to my knowledge of French (and a little Italian) and my facility with language generally. (Not long after I arrived in Mexico for a holiday a few years ago I was sputtering along in conversations with residents of San Jose del Cabo.)
So, I have plenty of time to look for a job in Mexico, and I could even plan to arrive during more favorable job-searching months. Would anyone like to give me some tips, or link me to particularly valuable sites or previous posts, etc.? (I *DON'T* want to live in Mexico City, I've had enough of megacities.) |

Arrive to chosen destination.
Buy phone.
Rent accommodation.
Insert 'escuelas de ingles' into this website to get the whereabouts of all the schools in a particular city.

Visit schools personally, resume in hand - face to face is the only way in Mexico.
Search for the universities too as they pay more or less double what private language schools pay.
Try Berlitz when you first arrive though they are very 'special'. |

Not in all Mexican cities. There are several private language schools in this city that pay more per hour than what I earn teaching at a university. There are also some universities here that pay about half as much per hour as what many private language schools pay. |
