Hi guys

It's been a while since I've been on the website, mostly because I've been very busy. I am getting ready to go back to Canada for good. I just had a question regarding some of the clothes that I don't want to bring back home.

When I first came to Japan I brought too many clothes with me, and despite going back home a few times (during the summer time and Christmas holidays) I still haven't managed to get all of my clothes back.

I was wondering whether or not Japan has a place where I can perhaps sell my used clothes? If not, maybe a place where I can donate my used clothes.

I don't want to throw away the clothes because I feel it's a waste and others might benefit from the clothes eventhough they are used. I am not interested in getting money for them. I know that in Canada my family ofthen phoned an organization called "Big Brother" every month, and we donated all of the clothes we didn't need anymore. Is there a similar organization here in Japan?

Any advice you guys can give me on the situation will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I doubt you could sell them, but you could donate them.
Clothes can also be recycled, depending on where you live.
Where I live in Kanagawa used clothes can be picked up, along with glass, cans, newspaper, etc.

The Salvation Army is in Japan, but I am not sure where. I think they are in Tokyo, at least.

At military bases ( like Zama) I think used clothes are sold.

Used clothes from Uniqlo can be returned, and they are then shipped to countries like Nepal.

This is a good question for the Japan Times. On Tuesdays there is a column about questions from foreign residents about living in Japan.

Thanks Brooks. You had a lot of useful ideas. I will probably do more research and try to find out where the Salvation Army is in Tokyo.
