I am asking in general, regardless the institution the person applying for. How's this videoconference interview conducted? Are you able to see the interviewers or just listen to them? stuff like this |

| Videoconferencing usually means video-you will see each other. |

Ah... so you meant:
What is a videoconference like?
(see what a difference the article - a or the - makes in the meaning of your question?)

I really wasn't trying to be mean, but it caused a complete misunderstanding of his question. It is examples like this that I loved to be able to use in class.
Since I've never taken part in a videoconference, I will go away now... But, as I understand them, you can see each other. It would be pretty bad if they could see you, but you couldn't see them. It would be more like an interrogation.

They can see and hear you. You can see and hear them. All the time.
(Assuming it is only a two-way videocon, that is.) |

Actually it's not as simple as that. I had a video conference interview a few years ago and the UAE end (HCT) had lots of technical problems - there were a whole bunch of people, and some of them couldn't hear me properly, and I couldn't hear some of them when they asked questions. Also there was a time lag, so as soon as I started answering the bloke the other end would start repeating the question thinking I hadn't heard.
Advice? Look at the camera when you're talking, not at the person on the screen. Women should wear a longish skirt or trousers - I was wearing a below the knee skirt, but for the interview I was seated on a hard chair with no desk in front of me - kept worrying the interview board (all expats but anyway it was for a ME job) would see my knees! |
