				| Here we go, one more time.
I thought I was going to have to leave SE Asia last January to go to Korea (money was running out, then I got another job). I am finishing up some MA (art history) stuff and I got to stay here in SE Asia a bit longer.

Time is running out, and I need to make a move soon. I am wanting to go to Taipei, but I am not sure of the accessability of art / photography in Taipei.

Anyone involved in pursuits / hobbies / work such as this? I am trying to stay here in the wonderful world of SE Asia, but I know time is running out and I have to make a decision by December. If anyone has any feedback on this (esp fine art photography, old style, with negatives, slides, etc) I would greatly appreciate it.

 Thanks in advance.

What are you looking for exactly? A career as an artist? A job teaching Art History? Your post is a bit vague...of course there is an art scene in Taipei - and all over the island!

As a grad student in Art History you may be aware of the Royal Palace Museum - arguably the greatest Asian Art museum in the world!

Photography/painting/sculpture/printmaking/etc. all exists...do an internet search for this. You'll be amazed. I also suggest that you post the query on forumosa.com...there is an arts/culture forum there.

 good luck

				| Thanks for the info!
 Sorry for being so vague.

I am wanting to be able to have access to artists so that i can publish work regarding art. As long as I make a living, teaching ESL, etc, I will have enough money to support me while I publish more articles. I also work on some misc creative projects (within an academic framework) and the lack of community resources can be very frustrating. I've been trying to research it, but obviously I find few things in English, so I'm starting to post on various message boards.

Thanks for the tip on the other message board.

				| My experience has been that many photographers here still use film. I use a pro E6 lab in Taipei that I've been very satisfied with. (I'm by no means a pro myself, I just like the variety of using film.) I don't know about other cities. There are frequently photo and/or art displays in the MRT station areas. A photographer friend and three other photogs are having an exhibit in January (one of the four is a photojournalist with a local magazine). It's my impression that this is not an unusual occurrence.
To get an idea of the shear number of amateur photographers here just take a look at the Taiwan Flickr groups.

				| Personally, I just love the randomness (read: grammatical hilarity) of the pictures that you can take in Taiwan that you wouldnt see anywhere else in the world!
Oh the poor fish!!! I also didnt realize how vicious the plants were here until I saw that people hunted them!!
