My residence visa will expire in 6 days.. I want to renew it, but not through my school (security reasons with the school). Is it true that once my visa expires I have 10 days to leave the country?? If not what will i be charged, per day, that I over stay my visa?? |

When I was in Korea, my school told my girlfriend that there was a certain grace period. We almost missed our flight to Thailand because we were getting in deep sheet at immigration. I know it doesn't directly relate to China, but I've learned not to believe grace periods exist for visas. |

Especially when it's a school, not immigration, that's apt to tell you this in order to get a few more classes out of you before you leave. |

there is a grace period in most countries (korea included) but the kicker is that you have to go to immigration yourself or in the case of china the PSB to apply for it - basically they will give you an extension.
In the case of china they will give you an extension but they will change your Z visa to an L or an F visa. Therefore you will have to reapply for a new Z when you get a new job. meaning new medical a trip outside the country in most cases although apparently some provinces will still allow you to convert F or L to an RPF (at least that is what some posters have stated although I am not certain on this) |

And the fine for overstaying a visa is 500 kuai a day, mate!
Don't expect the PSB to take this lightly; it's a legitimate way of cashing in. Some Africans who overstayed their visa in Guangdong were in fact jailed until they could cough up the funds! |
