Any of you guys know how much a one bedroom goes for in downtown Melbourne?
and is it true you have to pay each WEEK?

with respect to paying each week - rentals in Australia are usually advertised with a weekly rate but usually you pay four weeks (or more) at a time in advance. There's usually a bond as well of about four weeks rent.
I hope this doesn't seem ridiculously obvious but you never know. |

You might be thinking of serviced/furished apartments which are available on a week-by-week basis - but from my experience if you're looking at staying for anything longer than 6 months, you'd be better off going for rental accomodation. |

Without stating the obvious (I will anyway), it depends where you are. If you want to stay close to the city (15ish minutes away), you'll pay up to $1000 a month for a fairly small place. If you're willing to live further out, you pay less for a much nicer place. You have to pay a bond (which is returned unless you've put holes in the walls, etc) of one month's rent.
You'll have to sign a 6 month or one year lease and you're charged if you break it early. |
