Hey all.
My comp has crashed twice while writing so I'll keep it brief. I've been in Poland 2 years and am considering an offer in warsaw. Accommodation aside (which is free), how much more monthly do you reckon is necessary to bridge the gap between tri-city and Warsaw (for example) to live on a similar level?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated

| In Warsaw for a decent life you need to pulling in a minimum of 5,000PLN a month NET, your rent is going to be at least 1300 a month to start with. That figure is perfectly possible. I suggest that you contact Resource school first off (I have never even heard so much as a single bad word said about them) and then try Lang, ACT, Warsaw Study Centre, Ability, L2, and Empik. They will all pay you 5,000 a month net for a full-time schedule but you're best off putting together three or four schools each giving you 25% of a full-load, amazing how the balance of power changes when they know you can survive easier without them than they can without you! |

I wont agree with Alex in one sense - you CAN get 5000PLN a month NET, and without too much hassle, but I dont think you need that much to be happy. 3000 a month is the minumum to pay your bills, your food, your transport and so on; anything over that will allow you to fly home regularly; take a few trips around the country, cover you for missed classes and the more luxurious lifestyles.
(of course; just because you CAN live on 3000 doesnt mean you should undercut the rest of us)
EDIT: If you're accomodation is free, you need about 2000PLN cash left over. Which school is giving you the offer? (you can PM us if you dont want to broadcast it just yet) |

Is there such a thing as a free lunch? Very rarely. If the poster does have family in Warsaw to live with or a family member in Warsaw who has an unused apartment then good for him. But it's kind of unlikely that he does.
If the apartment is being provided as part of the salary then it most certainly will not be 'free'. School owners don't just give apartments to teachers because they are nice people. They deduct the cost of the rent from the teacher's salary. In some cases they deduct the cost and a bit more.
I've always said that apartment included in the salary is a bad thing to have. Much better to choose the apartment one wants rather than just accepting what the school owner thinks one might want. Who knows, the poster might get as lucky as you and find an 80 metre flat in the old town for 500 zloty! |

A 4-mth all lines tram card for Gdansk : 181 zl - 45zl/mth
3 " " " " (inc. metro and bus) " " Warsaw : 166zl or 55zl/mth
If you shop at Tesco,Bomi, Albert,etc it is the same cost.
Phonecalls are the same cost.
The price of a beer is about 1 zl/ 0,5l more...
In my experience (I lived in Gdansk a year) bills are the same (but you aren't including accommodation in your costing so I'm not sure if that applies).
Obviously one needs to know more of your lifestyle to give a fuller answer but in general I think there aint much of a "gap" to bridge... |
