I actually said this to a student today. Obviously the conversation was about football and he said (the) Ukraine would beat Scotland this evening. I am not one to tempt fate but.... any idea where this phrase comes from?

the opposite of "turn that frown upside down" i.e. on the horizontal "other" side of your face, not the vertical. just guessing.
