Sorry, I guess I was confused by the original question, and even a bit more so by S's response... You guys are going on as if we were talking about Andre the Giant here.
I'm a 43/88 and have absolutely no troubles at any mens' shop (e.g. Aoki Mens' Plaza)... An 86 sleeve is fairly standard, and a 40 collar even more so -- you should have no troubles.
Even with 43/88 I don't need an XXXL, although an XL is needed, to be sure. If you are buying a shirt that has no measurements other than a S,M,L,LL rating, the LL will PROBABLY be about at 41 or 42 / 86. This is from personal experience.
Hope that helps. |

| ...Almost every suit shop carries loads of 86 sleeves, even in their bargin bins. A 40 neck is also very common (neck sizes don't vary all that much...). I am also an 88, and that's a pretty difficult size to find nice shirts on sale. Your size, on the other hand, is ideal for that. Hell, I'd even recommend hitting up the nice stores like Isetan or Marui Mens (thinking Shinjuku here) and looking for some sales. With your size, if there's a sale, you can easily find some very good quality shirts for cheap (I know this cuz I'm always rummaging through all the bloody 86 sleeves looking for an 88, to no avail...). What you really should have done is stock up during the summer sales, I doubt there's as many bargains thesedays. But either way finding something in your size is *very* easy... |

Yeah, sorry about that. Don't know what I was thinking, or more likely not thinking at all, for a change.
So, what does the OP's shirt come out to in inches, and if it is so common why the querry? |

thanks. well, I ask because 86 sleeves may be common... 40 necks may be common... but 40/86 shirts aren't common.
But, I will keep looking.. appreciate all the hints! |

Ah-hah! Could have said that in the first place. In any case, how much are you planning to spend, how many shirts are you planning to purchase and in what particular styles are you interested? If you don't mind my asking that is F1. Oh, and what type of shops do you usually make such purchases?
Enjoy,

...I'm pretty sure you can find that size easily in any suit store... I'm surprised you are having troubles finding that. If you already went shopping and couldn't find anything, then (sorry to say) I suspect you can't have looked all that hard... Anyway, if you're just looking for basic dress shirts, head to a big enough Aoki/Aoyama et al. you can find pretty much any size (within reason). They usually have whole shelves devoted to specific sizes. Plus it seems to me that 40/86 is indeed a fairly common size anyway... I suggest you take another look. |

| L.L. Bean has some good shops, of course I have no idea what it is you are after but if it is a western-fit, you might try their shops. |
