|
|
Hey there,
I'm living in Argentina right now and I have a cell phone with the company Personal.
I'm not a technology expert, so I'm sorry I can't give you all the details... all I know is that I buy little card/chip thingies that go into the phone and that gives me $50 worth of calls and texts. After that runs out I buy a new one.
My question then: will my phone work in Chile? Can I take it to Chile and get a Chilean number, or is that impossible/illegal? And if not, how about getting my Verizon phone from America shipped on down? Will that one function?
I plan on slowly snaking my way back to the US via land (Darien Pass impossible, I know) and teaching in various countries, and it'd be unfortunate if I had to buy a new phone every time. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Please help if you can. |

you need to get it unlocked and get a new sim card in chile. it's cheaper to get a phone unlocked in chile (around us$9) than in argentina (us$35). as long as it's a tri-band phone (if you bought i in argentina then it must be) it'll work. once it's unlocked you can put any sim card from any country you like into it. |

there's a place in the centre, my girlfriend got hers done last time she was home in santiago for 5 luca. once she remembers exactly where i'll post it here. here in buenos aires, they told her it was 100 pesos, around 20k. she didn't take them up on the offer. |
