Im a teacher living in Poland. Just wanted to make that clear before you read on and think Im advertising for a bank or something Smile

Most English teachers are not exactly bad earners in Poland and I suppose some are interested in investing their money other than in beer and vodka. Ive been investing on the Polish stockmarket for a few years now and its really become a stable place to let your money work for you. Amazing returns were also possible....One stock I owned this year went from 17 zloty to 40 in a few weeks....its since gone to 152....so Ive mixed feelings. ALCHEMIA was the name of that one.....

All the banks offer online share dealing accounts and the one I use - dmwbk.pl is also in English. You have to visit the bank itself to open the account and dont have to have a 'normal' bank account to be able to open it. Thereafter its all online. You can deal with as little as 300 zloty.

Some other amazing returns came from these companies... Capital Partners 5zl to 40zl, Skotan 12zl to 100zl, and Gant 2zl to 27zl!!! All over the last calendar year.

Of course there are risks with any investment but it can be minimised with a bit of knowledge on what to avoid. The amazing gains of the companies above WILL happen again this year.....but who will it be? Oh, bye the way....the government takes 19% of any profits you make but you will be notified about this by your bank after year end some time.

If anyone is interested in investing on the Polish Exchange, let me know here and I'll try and advise. And an interesting stock for the next few months? Well.....a company called Wandalex looks good.....

More soon....if anyone's interested Smile

Hey,

I am a little interested in investing in Poland. I will be visiting some family in Warsaw at the end of the month and I want to open an account a WBK. I read the post about the company called WANDALEX S.A. I checked on the WSE and the last price I saw per share was around 3.90 zlotys

The question I have is what makes you think that their share price will rise?

I welcome your stock tips and will look into it more.

Another thing I must add is that I do not live in Poland, although I have family there. In the previous post it said that the tax rate is 19% on anything you make. Well what if you loose money on your investment. Or what if you investment increases but you don't cash in on it, you just let it sit? I ask because I currently live in Taiwan and the time change and all that blah, blah, blah.

Thanks

Before we get carried away with our riches, let's look at a few key points-

-You have to show up in person to open accounts.
-you must understand what you are investing in.
-you have to have some way to withdraw your earnings
-you have to be savvy enough to figure out the tax mess if/when you leave Poland (and take your money with you!)

There are more. Are you a better day-trader and, if so, why are you teaching English?

There are good investments in every country. Keep in mind that I am NOT a tax advisor, financial advisor or a lawyer and nothing I post should be considered 'advice'. Providing such advice may be a crime in your jurisdiction. My Polish isn't good enough to determine if one needs a license here or not.

Nice to hear you are doing well, however.

Who mentioned day trading??? I simply enjoy investing a few zlotys on the Polish market which happens, sometimes, to throw up some great returns. I also clearly stated you have to go into the bank itself to open an account so dont understand your need to repeat that as if its some major risk or downfall.

The tax complications are also not as complex as you think.....in fact theyre not complex at all.....19% of profits and if you make a loss you cant right it off and obviously not charged any tax.

How come you also claim not to be any kind of advisor but you have strange web addresses after your message and comments claiming you earn 3% a day....somehow.....

Regards.....

You certainly were right in that WANDALEX tip - a jump from 3.90 to 4.50 in the past two weeks. Would have been nice to have had some money on that!
So where do you get this info from?

Based on my experience a long time ago with inexpensive stocks, the problem is often the huge spread between the bid and ask price. Often the stock has to double for you to break even and not many stocks do that. Still, interesting information.

Hi, again.

The info comes froms years of watching theses stocks and years of time pestering my missus to translate the most boring information form a variety of Polish websites. Amongst them: parkiet.pl, dmbzwbk.pl, gazeta.pl, bankier.pl,......
The spread someone mentioned isnt a problem at all and the cost of dealing online is really cheap anyway so costs and spread do not need to be covered by a huge rise.
Wandalex has performed but its a slow one to be honest. Take a look at Kompap.....theres a guy involved there (reputed to be the 3rd richest in Poland) and the rumour is hes going to do things with the company - and the speculators are saying this could be the next big BIG mover. I bought it last year and was sitting on a 30% loss for ages until it shot back up on the back of this speculation.

Hey,

I looked into Kompap and although they seem like a good company I'm not sure I would invest in a paper producing company. Wandalex to me looks better because of their ability to sell abroad and particularlyy within Europe. Their products seem more likely to earn a profit. Whereas Kompap is competing with other much larger companies in the same field. They sell more to small Eastern Block countries that they do to Western European ones. Your thoughts on this would be interesting.

Thanks

The thing with Kompap Stare is its speculative potential. There were a couple of shares last year where one or two of the richest guys in Poland got involved and turned dull looking companies into something new. Skotan was one - was treating leather to be used in the clothing industry - which is now into bio-fuels I believe. Their shares went from 18zl to 250zl over a few months. Another company was Alchemia (15zl to 200zl)....also into materials a year or 2 ago but now into metals trading/production (bought a foundry) and fuels. The rumours are that Kompap could be next. Polands 3rd richests guy has got on board and speculation is rife that hes not interested in paper but could transform the company into something else.

Youre right though, Wandalex more solid but its the speculation thats interesting on Kompap.

One more firm to mention is Swissmed (runs a couple of hospitals and medical institutions).....recovered alot the last couple of weeks and last night announced a big contract with NFZ the Polish national health service. Things looking up. Bought a few last night at 5.90zl....we'll see. Thanks for the continued interest Smile

Hey Mique,

I too have bought in on KOMPAP, SWISSMED and WANDALEX. I just bought in on Friday night so I haven't seen any profits yet. I'd say about 60% is in KOMPAP and the rest is split between SWISSMED and WANDALEX. Roughly 10,000 zloty.

How long do you think I should stick with these stocks?
And please let us know more about you short to mid term range stocks

Hey Stare.

Why didnt you get in earlier??? Smile Dont worry, should be ok......Swissmed are about to do a Rights Issue so expect something to happen there. This means if you have Swissmed shares on this Thursday you will have the right to apply for more shares....Ratio is 3 to 4 i.e. every 3 you own you can buy 4 more at a discounted price. I believe the discounted price will be 1 zloty!....but will confirm it. The share price will adjust to the new shares issue price but its a hell of a discount if its true.

Be patient with Wandalex.....it broke the 5 zloty barrier last week so should eventually head up there again on news and good market conditions. As for Kompap. Id take profits on a good rise but dont sell out completely - keep some for longer term.

I got into Budopol on Friday....Id been thinking about it all week....Theyd risen 8% on Friday but still opted to buy. Ended the day up 35%.....plus 10% this morning.....Think I'll take the profits on those and buy again if they fall back.

Thanks for the intell Mique,

I was wondering about the discount you mentioned about SWISSMED. I am buying all my shares through Dom Maklerski, and I am doing it online. Do you know how I would be able to do this online.

Thanks
