Well after some boring half hearted job searches for a sweet American English teaching position (if there is such a thing...?- maybe teaching all AP seniors at a Catholic girls High School for nun wannabes?) I decided to take my English Teaching License and High Falooting ESL TESOL 120 hour certification for 65,000 Taiwan bucks a month.
YES THATS RIGHT COME NOVEMBER THE WHOLE OF FORMOSA WILL BE PUT UNDER THE STEEL SHOD HOOVES OF MY DESTIER AS I CARRY ON MY INDOMITABLE ENGLISH CRUSADE. ORCS AND GOBLIN WOLF RIDERS WILL SALLY AFTER ME. SUMMON THE LAST OF THE ABORIGINE TAIWAN FIGHTERS, YET THEY TOO WILL BE BROKEN UNDER AND MADE TO SING NASTY BRITISH GOBLIN MARSHMALLOW ROASTING SONGS AS WE BURN TAIPEI TO THE GROUND. IT WILL MAKE THE JAPANESE CULTURE OPPRESSORS LOOK LIKE PUSHOVERS. ALL SHALL TALK IN GLORIOUS ENGLISH. THE LORD OF TOAD HALL LEAVES TO TAKE AN ISLAND FIEF.
Two years ago Korea quickly fell under the matchless roar of my English Power. The subdued Koreans smiled and nodded after me cheerfully greeting their Lord unasked for with,
"Hello, How are you?" and "Nice to meet you."
For they new by my visage I was charged with English strength they had no words for.
See how I impressed my Innate Nobility over the Koreans? In little time I had them speaking my tongue and wearing the trappings of my English Mother Land. In the end they pleaded for me to tarry with them in Korea but I had heard of another Foreign Land I could conquer and glut down the whoppers and tacos they had created for my destruction.
Anyhow, What all you think I should do first....? Ask for more than 65,000 because I have more experience and an English teaching degree? I don't know... if the school is honorable in all things 65,000 is not so bad. However, I will have to check the fine print carefully as after all the taxes and other deductions I might end up with far less. As yet I have not seen an actual contract although I keep asking for one to be emailed to me. Perhaps they do not think it is worth the trouble until they actually see me on the doorstep of their school.
Any pro bicycle racers out there want to draft with me? Where all do you go to snorkel? I read the south and east are sweet for hiking. Who wants to invite me hiking and offer to take me to hot springs? I read ther are no bears left in the wilds there... is it true? Where should I go on my first weekend? What's the c00l ESL / Expat hangout? How do you say "More chocolate please." in Formosian? How do I avoid eating those piss eggs people love so much? Are there any books or stuff I can buy for you guys for when I come... I'd be willing to transport chocolate, books, cats, bacon, and other items provided you get me back on it- well maybe no cats. Feel free to PM me and offer to buy me pizza some time. |

| Good luck in your job search! Just don't expect anything extra, as your experience is non-Taiwan, and certificates are meaningless here. You are starting out as a newbie. |

| Hey thanks Toe. Hope the job works out for me... I am coming in on a 60 day tourist visa, but this 65,000 Junior High job is the one I was going to take... Anyhow if you see me at a c00l Expat pub you'll have to greet me though I not a major bar hound, but I'll have to hit the famous ones just for to see how it stacks against Seoul Town ones. |

Mmm well I do have a contact there who has two jobs waiting for me- a pravate junior high or a elementary school. I am leaning towards the Jr High. But if I meet a Colloge Professor on the Plane who insists on hiring me I'll take the job since I have not signed a contract yet.
Hi dangerousapple. Well I do have a contact there who has two jobs waiting for me- a private junior high or an elementary school. I am leaning towards the Jr High. But, if I meet a College Professor on the Plane who insists on hiring me for three grand I'll take the job since I have not signed any contract yet. |

You should find some humility first. We're a dime a dozen, your degree and experience aren't worth a heckuvalot.

20% tax will be deducted from your pay until 183 days into the next calendar year, There will also be NHI deductions.

That does not bode well.

I would be more concerned about snakes and spiders.

I always found a good way to avoid eating anything was to not put it in my mouth. |
