Hi everyone. I am a newbie looking for work in Taiwan. I have been in contact with someone from Asian Consultants International and was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. I am very wary of recruiters, so any advice would be helpful.
Thanks!! |

The above was from their web site. Perhaps they do not list the plentiful jobs to ensure their hiring through them- good business sense. At any rate, I am curious on how much / if any/ of your pay they keep. I have NO CLUE about this company but I'd always hear mad man stories of the Korean teacher who found out 100 dollars of this pay was going to his recruiter every month- but it did not really count as his pay
So let's hear the experienced ESLers who dealt with them |

It is true that some recruitment companies take a cut of your pay each month. The easiest way to avoid this is to only sign up if you are dealing with the school directly both contract wise and payment wise.
Don't sign an employment contract with a recruiter as they cannot legally employ you and then farm you out to schools despite what they might tell you. You can only work in the location/s stated on your ARC.
Ensure that your school pays you directly and then you won't have any worries about the recruiter getting a cut each month.
Most recruiters collect an upfront placement fee for the placement and in my opinion that is all that they are entitled to for the work that they do. The money you earn while working there is your own not theirs!
Post more about what you are told and we will help you if we can. |

| I was contacted by Julie Teng after having my ad looking teaching work up on tealit. At least i think it was the same Julie but her email was [email protected]. I got the feeling right away that she was shifty but when a friend approached me about any leeds i might have in terms of jobs i gave him all the phone numbers i had and her's was one of them. He ended up paying her 10,000 NTD and she was taking him to jobs that were listed on tealit. So take that for whatever it is worth but I would stay away from her like she had the clap. |

Mmmm well I can not comment on her at all but to say that her email to me was polite... Perhaps it was a different recruiter that gave your friend the bad hiring experience. However, your words are not very encouraging... But, thanks for the clues...
And to Griswald thanks, sound contract advice too.
Shi Shi to both of you that's my new "Thank you" Word in Formosian Indian err I mean Chinese... I have to read more and find out if the mountain aborigines have a separate language... Sad there are no more bears in the Mountains I could teach them English... |
