Hello, forgive if this as been addressed, I can't find it in a search.
So, I am a native English speaker with a four-year degree in English (writing emphasis) and I have been looking for a position overseas. I don't have a TEFL cert, so I've been finding most jobs I am qualified for are in China or Korea.
I've gotten a few offers from schools in China, but then, suddenly today I glanced (for the first time) at the Korea job board. By my math (remember, English major) it seems the jobs in Korea pay around $2000 USD to China's $650 USD!! Is this correct? Can it be? The cost of living in Korea doesn't seem all to much higher than China.
Firstly, I really want to teach and I want to do so in a culture-rich environment that I enjoy. Secondly, I have a mass of student loan and credit card debt that I still need to attend to monthly. Is it really the case that the pay rate is so much higher in Korea? Am I missing something? The only reason I never checked out Korea before is because I really dislike Korean food, but for an enjoyable position that will also relieve me of my Mastercard bills, I could learn to like it.
Does anyone know?
Thanks...Kimberley |
