Ghost will be taking up a position in Al Ain, and was wondering about accommodation in the area. An accommodation allowance of approx. AED 5,000 per month will be provided by the school in question. Will that sum be enough to find somewhere decent in the area?
Do you have to sign long term leases, and lastly, are there any hotels (cheap) that one can find with a budget of $40-$50 per night in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain.
Any tips or advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

As far as I know ... 60,000 Dh per year should be ample for a new, nicely done out 2 to 3 bed apartment with a chunk of change left over ... (all unfurnished mind you) ...
Not sure how much the little villas in the new compounds are ... it's possible that a small one could come in at or under 60,000 (??) and most have an on-site free pool and /or gym ... if your employers are giving you the full allowance regardless, you could easily get a smaller flat downtown and pocket a tidy sum ...
As for hotels, the 3 easiest to find are the 5 star ones, which are going to be more than $40 - $50, but I remember seeing one or two new (non 5 star) popping up .. one by Union National Bank in Al Jimi?
Some of the current Al Ain crowd on this site are better able to help you ... but don't forget, they're probably jetting off on holiday this evening ... |

You certainly won't find anything half decent for 60,000 in Abu Dhabi these days. Your average 2/3 bedroom flat in the centre of Abu Dhabi is now at least 90,000 with some as high as 120,000 dhs. Your best bet is obviously Al Ain. |

I'm not sure Ghost was thinking of renting in Abu Dhabi and commuting to Al Ain every day ... it would be a first ... though I could be wrong ... |

I too have just moved to Al Ain.
Yes AED 5000 per month is enough for accommodation. I did find some places available for less but they are a bit far out of the centre of town. There are also some cheaper houses for rent, but they are quite old.
I know of a cheap hotel in the centre of town near a supermarket called the Lulu centre. A colleague of mine is staying there. PM me for details.
All the best
