There are many banks in Kuwait and they all offer visa and mastercard first year free Easy to qualify if you have a job. All ATM machines use a variety of banking symbols that are on the back of your card so there's no trouble withdrawing money from those cards here or there. I suggest not closing your American/Canadian bank account as I found it more convenient to tranfer money and send checks through the mail for debts in my home country. It's also easy to get a money order from any of the banks, and I found that Gulf Bank charged me the same as Burgan to make a money order even though I wasn't their client. NBK is well known too and has many branches but they are NOT customer friendly if you encounter a problem. Burgan has too few branches to be convenient. |

I forgot to add you'll probably want to have the bank your job deposits its money into as it takes several more days to reach banks your job doesn't use. That's why I have several bank accts. |

Citibank is opening a branch on the Gulf Road here near Souk Sharq after receiving final clearance from the Kuwait Government. This means the New York based Citibank is the fourth foreign bank to secure a licence, joining HSBC, the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and BNP Paribas.
I could email u contact info for well reputed Off-Shore Banking if u wish. |
