Hello!
I am a new member and have been reading some of the horror stories regarding some of the unscrupulous private schools in Istanbul. I really am seriously condsidering Istanbul next year around this time. Any schoolds you consider better than others. How is the English Centre? Also am somewhat considering Japan just because of the pay but my real interest is with Turkey.

Thanks

There are no scrupulous ones.

The English Centre had a great reputation ten years ago.

It saddens me to say this. I was management at the EC for 3 years, I left 4 years ago. At that time it was a great place to work(on par with the Fast, thrifty) There were over 50 teachers and around 1500 students. There was quite a buzz around the place plus a good package in place.
Now (well three weeks ago) I heard they were down to 4 teachers. Allthe old staff left, didn't renew because they were going a few months and not being paid. I really don't know how this happened(maybe it couldn't exist post-dmb Laughing ) I really hope things are reversed as I have(had) alot of respect for Ahmetbey, the owner.

When talking about the chains, they are all the same. Some good things about every one and some bad things about every one. Mention any name of any chain and there will immediately be people here telling horror stories and others defending. It really makes no difference where you are talking about. If one had a good reputation or a bad reputation, it's a safe bet to say it's reversed now and will go back to good or bad again.

ALL ENGLISH CHAINS IN ISTANBUL ARE THE SAME. Make a sticky out of that.

English Chains-that is a good name for a language school.

But EC was never a chain. It was one school, one building. An old DOS bought the name of the owner and set up a school in Ankara, but they were never related. There was also a school in Kadikoy called English CentER. They got sued, don't know what the result was though.
