A few months ago there was a long thread talking about the Heisig kanji book, many people said it looked silly. After having a look through the free downloadable intro I thought it looked great.
I think that a couple of people said they were going to give it a go, including me. How is it working for you? I'm on about 700 now but it's getting a bit tricky now, stories merging together, keybords not strong,, the primitives are often right but the place they are put in the kanji is wrong etc.
To anyone who is doing it, a site called www.kanji.koohii.com is great for review. This has made it possible for me to see where i'm going right or wrong perfectly, so helpful.

I'm 2 weeks from the big 2042, then I'll start volume 2. I had lulls and rough patches but overall I think it got easier the further I got into the book, partly through reinforcement and greater experience in methodology, partly through living in Japan and using the kanji outside of the book. It's taken me roughly a year to get this far, but that would include about 5 months with zero kanji study. After all this I really couldn't recommend this book more highly.

Currently stalled. Not that there is anything wrong with the system -- I've just gotten so DANG busy I need a shovel to dig my way out of all my extra-curricular obligations and ventures.

It's one of those "round tuit" situations. Once I get around to it, I'll keep with it. I tend to be a procrastinator at heart -- and nowadays, rather than study kanji while I do my 45-minute daily cardio workouts at the gym, (like I know I should) I read a novel instead (and boy, am I enjoying my novels... I've gotten through three thus far, just peddling on the stationary bike and reading).

Maybe if my wife kicked my a$$ about it from time to time I'd stay a bit more focused. But seeing that's not going to happen anytime soon, maybe some of us underachievers here can start a support group to provide some encouragement and motivational help ... Smile What say?

I also stalled for a long time as I mentioned in my previous post, and the thing that's really helped me to get back into it is streamlining the process. I used to make review cards every 20 kanji, which was a real pain, but now I just write them down as I memorize them, then use the fantastic review program posted in the previous thread. Even when I'm busy I can always string together enough time to get through 10 kanji here and there. I'm now back to my old average of 100 a week.
