Has anyone taught in Cartagena? Is there a fair amount of demand for English teachers? What was the pay range at private language schools? |

there is a canadian school that is on the look out for teachers in Santa Marta but I don't have the contact number right now.
As for Cartagena it is just about the most amazing city I have ever had the pleasure of going to. But as all great vacation spots nice place to visit but i wouldn't want to live there.
the city is a world heritage site, it has a history of being the landing point for conquistadores, besieged by pirates and the cradle of colonial society in the fledgling contenent. The musuems are great, the architecture of the old wall city is like a step back in time and the people are all very friendly, they make their living on the tourist trade. So that's the end of the high brow stuff.
I have seen that some of the younglings are interested in....what is the euphemism you all have for it..."partying" well this is a good place for it, excellent night life, great music if you are into latin beats (which of course I just love) cartenga is the caribean ibiza
As for working there it is hot, humid and the residential part of the city is ahi no mas, and it isn't well know as a economic giant of the country, you would be better off going to bogota or medellin but if you have your heart set on Cartagena then you'll be able to find a job there (anywhere really) without any problem if you are a native speaker.
Good luck |

Cartagena is a great city. Not to sure about teaching English there though. I lived in Barranquilla (1 hour away). You would have a better chance of getting a job there at the Language school or University. |
