I've had glasses made in Phuket, and contact lenses, and haven't had a problem so far. The equipment they use to measure the eyesight is the same as what you get in the west, and as reliable, imho. On top of that, it costs a fraction of the price you pay in the west...I bought my glasses fro 2500 Baht, together with frames (My 'blindness' measures 5.5 degrees on both eyes Shocked Laughing , but the lenses are thin as the ones I got in my country.)

Just go into any Optic CHAROEN, or any other shop in Bangkok. Consultation is usually free, you just pay for the lenses and the frame. You might even get an offer, buy one get one free! Very Happy

My boss recently lost his glasses and went to a local shop for a replacement pair.

It cost him 1,200 Baht - including frames, lenses and the eye-exam itself.

He's a pretty fussy guy & he's totally satisfied with the new ones, fyi.

At today's exchange rate, that would be roughly US $33.

I heard its a good idea to get your eye exam done at a hospital instead of at the shop. They test for catarax and its supposed to be more accurate.

I recently got a new pair, as much as I love the glasses I was hoping the prescription to be a little stronger.

It only costs you a few dollars to have the prescription done at the hospital. Then take it to the shop where you will buy them from.
