|
|
Hi. Currently been working in Korea for two years and will most likely move to Japan in a year or so.
I would prefer not to work at an Ekiewa to be honest. And I know I would not get a full time position at a university.
So I'm thinking of my alternatives. I only have my BA (Non TEFL related) and my experiance at Korean private academies and Korean Public high School. I speak basic Japanese but wouldn't even pass JP1. I realise my Korean experience will not count for much in Japan.
I see my alternatives to Ekeiwa work as being to apply with JET as an ALT or to try and get into the public school system by other means.
I guess that is my main question - as well as JET, what other alternatives for full time teaching jobs are there other than Ekeiwa?
I have heard that there are dispatch companies that place people with equiv quals to me in Public Schools. Where do you find them / where do they advertise etc....?
And I have read of things called - BOS
Whatever that is - could someone please explain.
Thanks a lot. |

Leon,
With no teaching experience in Japan, you don't have a lot of choices as to your first job here.
JET ALT
non-JET ALT (through the dispatch agencies)
Rare (and I emphasize that word) FT position hired directly through board of education (BOE, perhaps the BOS you heard?)
Westgate Corporation will hire on a 3-month basis for its university teaching program, but you get a full visa. The problem is, you can't get consecutive contracts with them, so you'll have to find work after that time.
You might get lucky with some place that wants to hire a business English teacher for the company. No guarantees on that one, either. You'd have to apply directly to the company (Sony, Toyota, whatever).
Other than that, I can't think of any place. |

Pretty much what I thought. Thanks for your reply Glenski. Well, I have plenty of time until my current contract expires, so will be loking around...!
Cheers |
