Does anyone have any information on working at Brno English Centre? If so, what are the staff like? Is the DOS fair there? How easy was it to live on these wages? Can you recommend it? |

One of the best schools in Brno and a great teaching staff.
The DOS Nigel is a sound bloke and more importantly they don't seem to have a high turnover of staff. What I am saying here is that it's not the place for fly by night backpacking teachers (i.e. any number of schools in Prague). So don't think you can go there and not do your job they'll soon suss you out.
They'll find affordable accommodation for you and pay you an advance on the first month's rent.
You'll not be able to pay off any debts or save much but most of the teachers I know from BEC where out every night.
Brno is a great city, smaller and more compact than Prague, not so many historic sights and whatnot but a tight-nit ex-pat comminity and more opportunities to meet the locals and learn Czech (I married one).
If you prefer steeper prices, more tourists, loads of failed authors seeking inspriration and sitting in pubs quoting Walt Witman to impressionable Czech girls............THEN Praha is the place...............BUT if you want to be able to feed yourself, have a good time, meet nice people and get to know the real Moravia then go to Brno (but don't tell anyone.......it's a secret).
In a word (or three) GO FOR IT and before you ask I do not work for BEC, have never done................Kinell I left Brno 2 years ago to move to Saudi Arabia and make enough money to buy a flat in Brno. I just know the teachers there and that's all.
If you want email adresses for the current and ex-staff pm me. |

They're a good school and will be expanding for years to come. They might have to change that name if they expand any more, though.
One thing confusing though is that everyone there seems to be an assistant DOS of something or another. For example, the man arab strap mentions is actually a second-tier DOS and there seem to be third-tier DOSes, too.
One BIG caveat is that they don't want their teachers to teach at any other schools and they don't take part timers unless they're really stuck. |
