hello all,
My name is Hebah and I have posted before in the Saudi Arabia forum but seem to be changing my mind about where to go. My husband and I are looking to move next year and one of our options is UAE.
My husband has a B.Ed (Primary), M.Ed (TESOL) and will have completed his M.Ed (Administation and Management) by July next year from Sydney uni (and 5 years teaching Experience).
I will be a registered Psychologist (in NSW Australia) by March Next year having completed a B.A (Psych and Archaeology), M. Health Science and my Postgrad Dip in Psych Practice (3 years counselling experience amongst various call centres and customer service jobs).
I am looking to apply at institutions where we can work together. He teaching and myself in mental health, counselling or even teaching about mental health and counselling. I have applied at Zayed Uni and we get no response, I have applied in many places but we do not even get a return email.
I would really apprieciate any advice as to where would be best to find jobs where we can save a little cash on the side whilst learning Arabic and Calligraphy at the same time. (Maybe Sharjah or Abu Dhabi). What would be a good institution where I am likely to find a job in counselling/psychology where my husband can teach? and will we make a descent Salary?
Im also a little worried about the move. We are pretty 'family family' and I do not want to get depressed over there without any support. Is there things there to keep us sane?
Hebah

Hi Hebah,
Have you applied to the HCT they are currently advertising for both counsellers and teachers. They have online applications where you register for jobs and you would at least get feedback on whether your applications get screened in for futher considerstion or not. |

I'm surprised you got no response from ZU: they're usually pretty conscientioius about these things. Did you fill in an online application? If not, please try that, and if you did already, try following it up with an email. |

I would advise your husband to secure a job in Education as it sounds like he has good qualifications (although the experience looks a little thin). And you follow the counselling/psychology line through private medical centres etc. There is a severe shortage of trained and qualified psychotherapists, psychologists etc. in the UAE. Perhaps you will get a better response if you spread the net a little wider. |

Looking around the staffroom towards the end of a shift, I would have to agree there's certainly a market ... |

Thanks All,
I have applied at HCT, ZU online and several other places. Would it be logical to find my husband a position first, and once we have moved look for myself? I just don't know where to look for psych jobs, but I know that there is a good package lurking out there somewhere in the fog.
