I'm thinking of heading to mexico city to do the latin teachers america tefel course in Jan. I wanted any information anyone might have about the school, the course and getting working DF for short term contracts say 3-6 months? The other worry is I have dreadlocks, neat ones, but I'm a girl and I was wondering if i could get away with wearing a wig so I wouldn't have to cut them off, although I'm willing to do this. (cut them off) I'm also wondering if anyone knows of any cheap airfairs either way (Australia to mex) reccomended accomadation for my first few weeks and info on working illegally in DF. I'm worried that I may end up having to do this. Please Help me!

Is DF really that conservative? Shocked If a woman had dreadlocks here on the Oaxacan coast, the only thing people might think is that she's just another tourist!

Short term stints will usually mean language schools in DF and there are two types of classes to go with that. Onsite, in the school, and offsite, in companies (or often, a mix of both). Neatly-kept dreads should be ok in many places, but will probably be difficult to sport in a company EFL class.

Try Japan Airlines for your flight. They have pretty good deals, and sometimes you get a stopover in Osaka for the night for free! Smile

Or, you can get a cheapie to LA (try United, or sometimes even Qantas) and then a budget airline to DF. I got a one way flight (LA - Phoneix - GDL) with a company out of Phoenix to Guadalajara for about $100US a few years ago, which I bought online. Get yourself a stopover in LA. The expense is worth it. After that long in the air you will want a shower and a bit of terra firma for a while, and you'll arrive in DF a lot fresher and more alert.

I'm going home at Xmas through LA and on my flight back have a half day rate with the LAX Travelodge. Even 10 hours in a hotel is better than doing the 14 hours from Oz and then another 5-7 hour flight.
