if you take a look at the other thread, you will see that i am being inexplicably pulled towards the great metropolis.

i haven't been able to set anything up so far in sendai and all in all the advantages of going to tokyo outweigh the disadvantages.

advantages

1) better japanese schools
2) better and more teaching opportunities
3) everything you could need is in tokyo
4) more exciting
5) good base for travelling elsewhere in japan
6) i want to study aikido and the headquarters are in tokyo
7) the girls are nastier

There are a few in Tokyo. Sakura House is one http://www.sakura-house.com/ , though I have heard it is a bit noisy. Apple House in Higashi Koganei is cheap (1000 yen a night for a dorm room, used to be), but a bit inconvenient to the center (though not far from Kichijoji). http://www.applehouse.ne.jp/english/index-2-eigo.htm

right, thanks v. much chief.

applehouse: pure unadulterated squalor - that's just what i'm looking for!! only i can't see any 1000 yen a night ads. i'll e-mail them.

what's the commute like to the centre?

failing that i'll give sakura house a bash.

Still pretty nice outdoors. Wasn't many years ago that we spent two wonderful months living rough in Tokyo, before it became fashionable. Used to shop, bathe, do laundry and charge our phones all at the same place, nearly. Used to have my get-up hanging from a tree and cycle to work. Saw the Leonid comet shower one night, at least I hope that's what that was. Actually only saw one, just ripped the sky open directly in front of us, but man, what an experience! Never forget that, we had been waiting for hours and had seen nothing. Meant to get out of town, to avoid the light for better viewing but never made it. And just when it looked like a wash-out, this one came directly at us overhead in front of the tent and whoosh, we fell to the ground shocked, awed and blown away. Can't even remember who was there with us. Guess you would have had to have been there. Next time!
Enjoy,
s

You're going to waste your money.

Well, there are more

No. Everything you could need is in Tokyo.

Well... can't argue with that one.

Another good point.

Yeah. I think Aikido Headquarters is in a building in Nishi Shinjuku. Karate Headquarters as well as Judo Headquarters... Where are they?

Is that something you learned from a travel brochure or from your friend in Sendai? Rolling Eyes

1) why exactly would i be wasting my money going to a school? i think formal study of a language is helpful.

3) anything anybody could possibly need is in tokyo. isnt it? that's what the guidebook says.

7) i've heard it from a number of different sources. actually, come to think of it, i had two japanese gfs at university - one from tokyo and one from sendai - and the one from sendai was a much better ride. go figure. Twisted Evil

Hentai, you're looking for the best and the cheapest. Usually the two are mutually exclusive.
