This thread is posted because I recently received a PM from a user that covered a topic I thought deserved more exposure.

Minority Experiences in Argentina.

Are you considered a minority?
What were your experiences in Argentina?
How did you deal with those experiences in Argentina?
What are some helpful groups, clubs, places for minorities?

Thank you for your helpful testimonials.

...and thank you for posting positive.

I'm a minority of native Peruvian descent (mixed with Welsh) and here in
the UK I'm a minority but in Argentina I blend into the
surroundings nicely so I'm probably not the best person to ask the question but I know about racism so I will give my opinion on it!

There aren't many black faces in Argentina though I did see a few
on my last trip in 2005. Around Plaza Misiera especially.

Argentines share with the Australians a casual racist attitude, I heard black people being referred to as 'n****' though I would doubt very much that a black person would be treated with anything other than kindness as
that is one of the great national trait of Argentines. To treat strangers with great respect, kindness and civility is one of their most becoming traits.

However if you are of native Ameridian parentage and are from Bolivia or Paraguay it will be different. Rolling Eyes

I agree.

I feel that a lot of opinions in Argentina aren't really too fair to nearby compatriots, but on the whole everyone I meet is pretty respectful and forthcoming in their views.

Mostly people are gracious and dignified, it is normally uneducated or jaded Americans I feel misrepresent situations most in Argentina out of stupidity or embarrassment that just perpetuate angst and xenophobia in such a literate country as Argentina.

I recall a time not too long ago when people were more positive and tried to help one another, that needs to be changed on a day to day basis both from the people of Argentina and from the people that want to make a positive impact in people's lives.

Thanks for the advice and perspective experience bejarano!

I don't know you and I do not want to stir anything up.

But, I can guess where you are from, and you sound like an idiot!

Regarding racism in Argentina, I dont think they are particularly racist here, especially considering how homogeneous they are and the fact that they have many of Spanish descent (the Spanish are very racist IMO). Thats not to say that there isn't racism here, because there is, but I think you find it everywhere.
