Wondering how possible it is to take on a 2nd job. I know it goes against all sorts of rules and regulation, but does anyone else fit in another job on the quiet?
I'm working in Riyadh and have evenings free and would welcome another source of income and something to fill in the time. Before I go mailing off prospective enquiries does anybody know if any language centres in Riyadh entertain applications for part time employment for evening or weekend classes?
cheers

Many teachers moonlight by taking private students, a few also do evening classes in langauge instituions. However, the former is far more common because, although it's technically against the rules of most (if not all) contracts, it's informal, easy to arrange and requires no paperwork. It can also be quite lucrative if you get the right students.

Regarding language schools who might employ moonlighters, I seem to remember someone working in this manner for the British Council, but that was a few years ago.

(This was in Qatar)
An ex-colleague of mine advertised in a local paper. A rather senior manager phoned him up. He recognisd the phone number? and sacked him over the telephone when he confirmed his name.

Who says Arabic management don't earn their salary Wink

Now that, as they say, is real intelligent.

I had an Irish colleague in Jeddah who did the same thing. He put a free small ad in the personals in the Arab News. He used his company phone number. It was spotted. He was fired.

Be carefully where you will find the second job! Because you might end up caught or seen by your students or one of your Saudi colleagues and they might report you to your boss, and in this case you might lose your first job.

When I worked for the PCA under an Avco Dallah contract, they were happy to let some of us teach in their small institution in downtown MECCA. Went to the holy city 3 times a week/12 hours a week and got a Rs100.00 an hour. Rode in blackened windowed Mecedes with driver.

Your employer (or his cousin etc.), may have a similar operation going on in Riyadh, check it out

Do not worry Queen of Sheba and Van Norden, my King Cobra which is called Naja Naja, is 5 m long and with bronze eyes, and does not like games and will not disturb you as far as you are kind to it and neutral. Laughing Laughing
My Cobra needs to hide under the sand from time to time, in case the weather is very cold and when it feels in danger, especially these days! And then get back out of the sand with different colours and different shape to survive the harsh life in the desert! This is what I call the 'virtual survival' of the King Cobra!
