I'm in the process of getting hired by Hess right now and just had a few questions for people who are currently working for Hess or in Taiwan in general. Hess mentions that most of the apartments are unfurnished. Is this 100% true or arethere possibilities for getting a furnished apartment? As well, being a person who has never been to Taiwan before and speaks no Mandarin, is it relatively easy to find cheap furniture and appliances? Any help answering these questions would be appreciated. |

My gf and I moved into a fully furnished apartment, and what furniture wasnt there (ie. TV, kitchen table) we were easily able to find thru other teachers we met, and online expat forums.

Very easily done. Especially appliances, there are 3 major stores, either Carrefour, Costco or Dollars where you can find any/all major/minor appliances at a fraction of the cost they are back home. I think we bought a brand new toaster for around what would be $10 CDN. Sweet, sweet toast!

Step into my tipi...
Most of the places I've rented were sorta semi-furnished. Of course, there was that one place up on Yangmingshan which was totally empty but soon after the landlord found out I was sleeping on the floor, she came in with all kinds of cool stuff.
I would have stayed but she also had the bad habit of slaughtering chickens outside my bedroom window every morning at 5am. |
