Just wondering how long lessons are for those of you who teach in language schools.
Our school has 90 minute lessons, 45, then a 15 minute break, then 45. By the second half, the kids look like their brains are fried. |

What do you actually want to know?
I'm at a uni language college and we have 45 minute lessons too.
These are separated by a 15 minute break. As long as the text is covered it's up to each individual teacher to employ whatever teaching techniques result in the best level of service delivery, the best level of student motivation, comprehension and language acquisition aswell as the
most productive and positive language learning environment.
The China of today is not like it was 10 years ago, not like it was 20 years ago and each one of us must endeavour to employ behaviour management practices that are fair, ongoing and reasonable.
Is there something more specific you need help with?

Kindergartens: 20 to 30 minutes per period;
primary and middle schools: 40 to 50 minutes per period;
college and university: 45 to 50 minutes per period;
private training centres: Variable, often not determined; a period is 60 minutes, and if your students show signs of absentmindedness, you give them a break (5 to ten minutes).
Most lessons comprise two periods. A period is commonly called 'one hour'.
The maximum number of consecutive periods I taught was three - from
9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., one class, 11 participants. It worked quite uneventfully. However, in most cases, 20 to 30 adults in a two-period evening lesson tire me out after one hour and a half. |

If you work for any of Bing Liang's schools during the summer you may wind up teaching 4 straight hours to the same students. Now that can be fun. |
