There will be a Remembrance Day service at St. John's Church, Alsancak, Izmir (next to the British Consulate) on Sunday, 12th November at 10.45.
This is organised by the RAF who are here with NATO. They provide refreshments afterwards and, in addition to being a worthy event, is a good opportunity to meet local people. |

It just occured to me that Friday is Ataturk's memorial day,do you or have you ever told them about what happens the day after, in the past I was usually reminded that Turkey was not really involved in those conflicts ,really I say what about the war that took place in Cannakale and now the war on terroism ?
Wonder what they will say then . They have one day for one person and the next day forget all those millions who died before and after him .Strange that .
Sorry should this be on the "man" thread it is about things that blokes do after all ,play football and kill each other . |

oh yeah. I usually miss it.
I remember reading years ago what a pleasant experience it was to be on the Bosphorus during the minutes silence. In 14 years I have never managed it.
Usually, I have been ignorant of the fact until later. However, one year I remember walking along Sisli high street and all the traffic and pedestrians stopped. It was quite a refreshing change.
Does the metro stop? |

In theory the do is by invite only but I have it on reliable authority (RAF contacts, don't you know) that you can participate without one. If in doubt, make yourself known to me if poss. (I'm fat, fifty and female) and you can come in with me on my invite, it doesn't say "admit one" or anything and I've already invited two friends (Turkish) so a few more won't hurt!
Poppies will be available on the door. |
