I read somewhere on the board here that Aeon expects you to continue to pay for the housing they provide even after you have moved out. I called and this was confirmed by the Aeon person I spoke with over the phone although they said that some exceptions may be made, well who knows whether I would fall under any of theese hypothetical exceptions. Does anyone have any experience with this? I think it is ludicrous to have to continue to pay for company housing even after you have worked for them awhile and given proper notice to move out.

I said this in a recent post, but I'll say it again:

Once you've been with AEON for awhile and your branch school manager becomes convinced you'll be around for for at least a year after you drop the AEON apartment, you'll be allowed to do so without paying further rent payments for it. The school you work for signs the lease on the apartment so you have to make them feel good about giving up the apartment. If the school drops the apartment and then you quit suddenly, the school has to pick up another apartment and pay all the start up costs. Branch schools usually don't have a lot of money sitting around; they give almost everything they make during good months to corporate. What they don't give during those months they save for the bad months when they don't make their required money.
If you sign a second contract with AEON, your school manager will let you drop the apartment obligation. Some outgoing teachers aren't using AEON apartments right now, so it's possible to slide into a position that doesn't have an apartment attached to it. Thus, you can find your own lodging right away. You'll have to pay all the start up costs yourself as well as find a guarantor, though.
