No it's not.
You can join the scheme with only a degree in any subject.
Most of the links you need to find out about the scheme can be found here:
http://www.west-web.net/pnet/index.htm#NET%20Scheme
You might need to improve your spelling though... |

yes anyone can be a pnet in hong kong ....we have ex bus drivers and painters....in hong kong there is no status given to teaching. all one needs is a uni degree in anything....you can have a degree in landscaping or accounting and you can get a teaching job....as long as you have a degree and speak english then the teaching aspect isnt a worry.....roll up roll up |

I think there is more to it than that. I believe, that due to shortages of REAL teachers, you can now be a PNET or SNET without a degree. As long as you have some kind of diploma. Also you don't need to be a native speaker these days - as long as you have some command of English. So you could be an Eskimo or something, but speak passable English and have a diploma in Whale Management and you'd be eligible to be on the NET scheme. And while the EMB will take anyone with passable English, of any colour or creed - the same cannot be said of individual schools. Good luck. |
