Just wanted to say that on this otherwise beautiful Indian summer day, perhaps because the wind has so suddenly ceased, the pollution in Krakow has reached levels too unhealthy to stay outside for long in--anyone who denies this is a fool and perhaps lacks any advanced form of consciousness. Walking to work this morning at a somewhat brisk pace through the thick nasty smog, I found myself, a fit young man of 25, getting winded. I am not some ninny, nor am I die-hard environmentalist--I know there are cities with worse pollution in the world (Cairo, Athens, etc.), but nonetheless I am angered to the point of dizzying disbelief that a society can be so stupid and poison itself unto death like this.

Cracovians should refuse to leave their homes and participate in all-out general boycott until all remaining factories in Nowa Huta and its environs are destroyed (look to the east everyone, do it, it's black like Mordor over there!), the last vestiges of communist architecture demolished, the water in the Vistula drinkable, fishable, and swimmable, their wages rise to at least acceptable Western standards, and every last politician with moles on their foreheads and kupa in their brains removed and replaced with the younger generation that is yearning, at last, for a civilized country.

Warsaw is horrid too. I think it ages people. Poles do not age well.
