Sorry to bother you all again with my simple questions that i can not seem to find the answer to anywhere else, but I was wondering what employers what when they request a picture with my resume. I expect that i need to be properly dressed and such, but do they want a body shot, head shot. shoulders and up, or something else?

Passport is fine. Bright, head up, BIG SMILE, try to look genki.
Put on a proper work shirt with a collar and buttons.
If you're a dude, wear a tie. |

I think those types of photos are a little staid. They'd much prefer to see one of you competing at the Nathan's hot dog eating contest. |

Not unless you want to shave it. Otherwise trim it.
A scanned photo is fine, since you will be emailing it with the resume.
BTW, Canuck, is that your dream girlfriend? |

You aren't allowed to smile in Canadian Passport photos anymore. |

Nor in Australia. I was working in a photo lab this year where we did passport photos and a customer complained that her passport photos had been rejected because she was smiling. |

When I got my passport picture, the photographer told me that you couldnt smile because you wouldnt be smiling if there was a problem with your passport. I dont know if he was kidding or not... |

You can't smile because of new facial recognition technology a lot of contries are implementing. Smiling contorts your facial muscles too much.
New passport applications in Canada and Australia, with photos where the individual has even a hint of a smile or there is a glare on their face, will be returned with the instruction that the photo can not be used.
Incidentally, if you have trouble not smiling when people are shoving a camera in your face, try thinking of something sad. Alternately, ask the photographer to count to 3 (take the photo on 3), keep your eyes closed up until the photographer says 2 and then open your eyes. This will usually work to keep a neutral expression on your face. |

Just think of how teaching wages have declined in the last few years. That'll do it. |

When I was getting my passport pic I was under the impression that they didn't want you to smile cause then your teeth show which causes glare. |
