I am curious to know what a director at a school, or the person hiring you needs to see on my resume.
I hold a BA in psych., but this is a whole new resume for me.
Should I write down my jobs that have nothing to do with teaching, or just show them my certificate with only the objective and schooling info. on my resume?
Thank you kindly |

There is a posting above yours called "Sticky: Steps in the process for finding work in a non-English area" which includes a sample resume that I found helpful. |

Stickies aside, it might help to know the country(ies) you are targetting.
And, of course, put down the teaching unrelated jobs. If that's all you have, or if that's the majority of your work history, it would be silly not to list it. If you have a moderate to low amount of teaching history, separate it from the non-teaching work. It just might prove interesting to the potential employer. |

Another good idea is to (briefly) emphasize "teaching-related" aspects of non-teaching jobs. Maybe you've never been a teacher, but did you work in trainer or supervision of others? Or as a team leader? Do a job that requires good language/communication skills? Work with kids?
If you haven't got much in the way of teaching, do as much as you can to help them see why you feel you're ready to teach...
Best,
Justin |

I was given another useful piece of advice with regards to making my CV. When I was revising my own, once I did have some teaching experience to list, I was going to remove all my work as a musician becuse it was unrelated. The advice was to leave it on, albiet in slightly truncated form, simply because it was interesting.
I got the very next job I applied for, over almost two hundred other applicants, simply because there was a teacher there who needed a drummer for his after-hours group. The drumming work also paid fairly well, so I got TWO jobs out of that one application! |
