Hi,

I've just returned from Taiwan, and had a great time. I'd ultimately like to return there, but for the time being, I'd like to further my studies.

Right now, I have the choice of studying a one year course that would enable me to teach in Australia, or studying my masters in Applied Linguistics through The University of New England in Australia. I really find this aspect of linguistics really interesting, but also, I would like to think it would amount to something if I were to teach in Taiwan, for example.

Has anyone studied this, or similar courses? If so, do they lead to jobs in liguistics or similar fields in your home country? Or, is the course only really suitable for teaching overseas? Assuming things don't work out overseas, I'd hope that the studies I'm about to do will help me obtain a good job in Australia.

Thanks!!

Bigjobs

I just applied for a job at New England (in Armidale, NSW) a few months ago (but didnt get it due to bad timing)

I cant speak for Taiwan but as long as the degree comes from an accreditted and recognised university (which UNE is, in Australia) you should have no problems getting it recognised when looking for jobs. I have a US TESOL degree and it was accepted by employers when I applied for jobs in Australia (from Japan, Im a Kiwi)

A lot will depend on what kind of jobs you are looking for (universities, TAFES or conversation schools in Australia as well.
