It really depends what you are looking for. Many confuse the two islands because the name is similar but they are quite different indeed. Samui is the typical destination for tourists. Whereas Samet is more quiet and calm. Most Thai vacationers will go to Ko Samet. There are only a few bars and the night life is not like the typical rawdy atmosphere found in places like Samui, Phuket and Pataya. If you would like a place to mingle with foreigners, Samet is not the place. If you want a place to quietly enjoy the atmosphere then head to Samet. There are no paved roads, and renting a motorcycle will cost about 250 baht an hour, whereas other places it is that price for the day. My family and I usually go to Samet. We avoid the Tourist areas. However, it is not the best season to be going on a beach vacation. You might have to stay inside while it rains. We usually head there around November and December.

Do you know anything about TESL in Samui, Phuket, and Pataya???

Would these places be a good place for TESL to young children? Do you know of any great schools in these areas?

I would like to be in a lively city/town, with a social life, sun/beach etc.

Any imput would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I used to go to Koh Samet on long weekends. Very quick to get there. I usually stayed next to Silver Sands and hung out at the Silver Sands bar on the beach all night listening to sweet music and drinking Singha. Oh, the goold old days.
