Hi,
I have been using Skype here in Salalah for over a year with no problems that is, until last week.
Now I cannot Skype anybody in Turkey where we have a lot of friends. I can contact family in UK, but the problem is that I can hear them but they cannot hear me!!!
I have checked my audio soft/hardware and it functions perfectly.
Anyone else having this kind of problem??

Skype amd MSN Messenger's video chat are both unusable in UAE because Etisalat wants to keep their monopoly. Maybe Oman is doing the same? |

Yes,
I suppose Omantel have been waiting to see how much usage Skype was getting. I assume it must have gone above their "acceptable" level so they cut it off.
I haven't checked MSN yet.
Doe anyone in Oman have this problem??

I'll try to find out from a friend of mine who had been using it in Muscat area... but he doesn't visit here
I know that he has always been running it through some kind of proxy site that was discussed on a previous Skype thread here...

Hi VS,
Sounds good, have tried a couple of "tunnels" but they seem to hit the same prob'. Maybe I/we should dig deeper!!
The movie - "Great Escape" comes to mind.

Funny... I was traveling and could only pick up a couple channels on one of my stops. And they showed The Great Escape... hadn't seen it in years... too many years to even think about. Great fun to see it again.
Hopefully my friend will answer and he has found a way out... we need that scavenger character... he could always find what one needed.

OK,
The "tunnels" I am talking about are the ones that go through, under or above a firewall, as in "proxy"..

Oh shucks... and I thought that you were talking about those tubes that the US congressman described as part of the 'internets.'
No response from Oman yet...
