I'll be stopping in Dammam/Khobar for a couple days. Any advice on hotels to stay in near shopping? I want to stock up on books and some Western foods I can't get where I live.

Thanks in advance.

Gulf Meridian & Holiday Inn: Pricy but very pleasant
Books: Jarir (Corniche branch) in Khobar

Got a multiple exit/reentry? Treat yourself to a trip across the bridge to Bahrain.

Don't you know anyone at Aramco or BAe? Lots of spare beds there if you ask around.

Choice of books at Jarir has declined a lot recently. I was there last week and there was not a single book I wanted to buy.

I now use Amazon. Delivers quickly with no hassle and the discount makes up for the price of postage.

In other respects Khobar is OK. If you are living in the sticks check out the big supermarkets in Khobar, particularly Geant and Carrefour.

I know, I know...no need to rub it in. They're not of much use here anyway. In fact they're a handicap.

Van Norden's advice about dossing down at Aramco or BAe is the kind of advice that gets EFLers here the justified reputation of being cheapskates.
