Hi there,
I've been offerd a job (without interview) at the Hsin Yin branch of Shane English School. Hsin Yin is a small town outside of Tainan.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this school?

That's the way it's spelled on the train signs at least. I live just outside of Tainan so I have to go to Sinyin to do my ARC stuff, and just wanted to say it looks pretty desolate. And you'd have to ride the train about 30 minutes to get to Tainan. On the plus side, I did see a KFC. In my experience taking the time to save money and coming on your own steam and having options is usually the best choice. Good luck. |

Based on Brooks reply, I would say hightail it in the other direction.
If you come to Taiwan, on your own with no friends, no contacts and no idea of what an isolated bubble you can get yourself into by living out in the sticks my advice is to look for something on arrival.
OR
If you want job security and a cushion to land on, look at applying to Hess because you can request a larger city like Taipei or Taichung where there is more happening than the local KFC. They will also help to find you a place to live and you'll meet loads of cool people who are going to arrive at the same time as you and in the same boat. I work for them and without this sounding like a marketing ploy, it can be a more comfortable landing. They train you for a full week at the start and give you a lot of guidance on finding your way around Taiwan and what the expectations are going to be. They also sort out all your documents for you to get your ARC etc.
Good luck.

Shane School is one of the best in Taiwan but I do not know about the area you speak of, it depends what you are looking for. I lived in a small town outside Kaohsiung when I first arrived, over the week you can concentrate on work and stay in Tainan or Kaohsiung over the weekends, it is not that bad for your first experience. |
