hi
can anyone suggest a site that explains the use of 'excuse me' vs 'i'm sorry' n vice versa ? or can anyone offer a simple explanation.

You forgot 'pardon' and 'pardon me.'
I actually think myself that they're all fairly equal for casual occasions where the offence has been minor, although 'I'm sorry' can obviously be applied to greater offences as well.
When teaching English for international communication, I personally encourage 'pardon' because I have some idea that it's more understandable/more generally used - but that's just my personal impression! |
