Simple enough question. What for you is the optimum number of teaching hours a week? Lets say the salary would remain the same no matter what.
For me, it's no more than 15, but actually my current load of 9 feels just about right. |

I actually quite like my 20 per week, but I have extensive holiday time every year, so it evens out to less, if you want averages. |

If I could be paid my current wage for 12 hours a week, I'd be a happy man. I'm contracted for 18.75, but I took an extra class for OT. |

Why would anyone not choose zero? It's money for nothing, and apparently there's a precedent that one's 'chicks' should also be for free
Where do I sign? |

After enjoying a few weeks of holidays, I usually get bored out my skull and look for troube to get into. Work keeps me busy and generally happy. The more free time you have, the more money you will spend. Also, you really can't move up in life working zero hours a week. That's why I chose 12 hours. |

Nada, of course. I'd find my own fun by myself. Hell, going into work and not feeling the obligation of having to teach is quite a good feeling. |

Tough question. 12 to 18 sounds about right, in the sense that I could do a REALLY good job, and enjoy myself. More than choose how much to teach, I really wish I could choose WHO to teach...
Best,

Right now I'm teaching 15 per week (3 hrs/day), which I find to be a very easy schedule. A couple of semesters I've taught 20/week, which is fine but keeps me busy. 25 or higher is tough; at my previous school I sometimes had to teach as much as 30 hours per week: it was exhausting and the lessons suffered for it. |

Depends on what, if anything, the school would expect me to do when I wasn't in the classroom. I'd much rather be in class with students (I really do enjoy being in the classroom!) than stuck in an office doing administrative work. I tend to be pretty efficient, so I can get lessons planned and materials and tests designed fairly quickly, but if there is an arbitrary number of hours that I have to work then I'd rather spend them, to a reasonable extent, in the classroom. "Reasonable" being up to 20.
I had an ideal situation in Japan a couple of years back: technically, we had a 40-hour week. 20 classroom hours, 5 office hours, and 15 hours of prep time. There was nobody strictly enforcing those 15 hours, though, so once I was done prepping I would go to the computer lab, hang out in the library, etc.
