I'm in the process of finalizing my application for a JET ALT position.

A question: what is the full range of possible tasks that a JET ALT could do?

I've heard "human tape recorder" and I've also heard that JETs can lead classes.

What about writing and grading tests?
Perhaps teaching English in content area classes--teaching a math or science lesson in English?
Any other possibilities?

Many thanks!

To teach a content class in English, you must first presume that the students can understand enough. They can't.

Second, to teach a content-related class in public schools, you probably need a special teaching license.

Third, legally ALTs are not allowed to teach solo in public schools.

Lastly, for the range of activities an ALT is involved in, you pretty much described the low and the high. The truth is somewhere in between. Might not hurt to ask www.bigdaikon.com .

Cheers!

I've just discovered bigdaikon.com. A good resource.

Today is the due date for the U.S. JET applications.

Mine arrived on Friday--tracked the package on the Internet.

I'm curious to see what happens and becomes of this whole process.

Have had enough of teaching in New York. Time to return to Asia. I could be a JET ALT for a year.

Yes, I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your encouragement and enthusiasm.

Regards,
